Why Do We Need Feminism! What is feminism? Is it a movement? A mindset? A way of life? I think it’s all of these things and more.
Women have been opressed for as long as we can remember. So when I say it’s all of those things and more, I mean it is a historically pending revolution. From being granted the right to vote, to own land and to make our own choices about our bodies are just examples of how fundamental our fight is. There has been progress- there is no doubt – but we have to acknowledge that this isn’t even close to an appropriate amount.
Can you honestly tell me you feel safe going for a jog at dawn? How about wearing pink to work? Do you feel like you have to choose between family and career? And between being a ‘lady’ or an outcast?
The truth is the answer to these questions and so many more is clear for nearly every woman on this planet. And this exemplifies the seriousness with which we say ‘We are not in an equal world. We are far from one,’.
The fight is not won, but it has been on a while- quite a while – which is why we bring up one simple but effective way to push through for an equal world.
Remind yourself an those around you Why We Need Feminism: Why do I need it? Why does my sister? Or my queer friend? Or my Asian colleague? Why do we, as a world, require feminism in order to progress?
